Our Story

Intelesi was founded in 2007 and has since grown from strength to strength, building a diverse portfolio of government, NPOs, international agencies, and private corporate clients.

The name Intelesi comes from the isiZulu word “Intelezi”, a plant with healing and magical properties. Like the plant’s abilities, Intelesi believes that through innovative and engaging learning experiences, we can begin to address developmental challenges and foster a sense of diversity and local pride.

Our people

Founder:
Arlene Walsh holds an MSc in Strategic Planning from Edinburgh Business School–Heriot Watt University, a Masters in English from the University of South Africa, Honours cum laude from the University of Johannesburg, an H.Dip.Ed. from the University of the Witwatersrand, and a BA from UNISA.

Before starting Intelesi Arlene pursued a varied career in teaching, academia, the NGO sector, and private higher education. She continues to nurture her passion for education, empowerment and skills development with idea generation and networking and collaboration at the forefront of her many capabilities.

Member:
Geraldine Martin has been a member of Intelesi since 2007. She holds a Masters in Psychology, Honours degree, BA, and H.Dip.Ed. from the University of KwaZulu Natal. She is also currently registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Counselling Psychologist.

Before joining Intelesi, Geraldine worked in the private sector in varying roles–from Product Technical Manager in the construction sector, to her own private practice, to Divisional Operations Manager in the private education sector. These positions have contributed to her ability to plan, implement and monitor projects, and predict project risk with her intrinsic process-orientated approach.

Core staff:
Nandipha Sephuma holds a Masters in English, Honours degree summa cum laude, BA summa cum laude, and an IB Diploma from Waterford Kamhlaba UWC. Her role in Intelesi extends to material development, editing and quality assurance as well as project management. She executes these roles with a sharp analytical mind, careful attention to detail, and a passion for acquiring knowledge and deep understanding.

Vivienne Molloy holds a Masters in English cum laude, Honours degree summa cum laude, and a BA cum laude. Her responsibilities include material development and editing at Intelesi. She approaches her tasks with a creative mind, an enthusiasm for new ideas, and an interest in education and development.
